cantos I.At 10 pm I ride the #9 train to Gramercy Park. You can learn a lot about a person by the way they stand on the subway. New York City's inhabitants are born with the uncanny ability to keep their balance while standing on the subway no matter how intense the force of the stop is. If you stumble, sigh, or give a yelp of surprise...you are a tourist. An interesting thing happens when the subway exhales and releases the trains into a flood of light - you can see people in the other trains going the opposing way. Eventually this becomes so natural the faces all hold the same unreadable expression. Person 1, Person 2, Person 3, crying woman, Personcantos I.
